Reloading projects

The File > Reload submenu reloads project files from disk, replacing the copies open in the IDE with the versions on disk. Reloading is most useful when project files change outside the IDE: after pulling changes from a version control system, editing a file in another editor or working alongside an AI agent.

Reloading replaces what is in the IDE with what is on disk, so if you have changes you have not saved yet, save them first. When a project is in Agentic Mode, Xojo reloads items automatically as the agent edits them. The Reload commands are there for when you want to reload on demand.

Project

Reloads the entire project from disk. Every project item is replaced with the version on disk. This is the equivalent of the Revert to Saved command in earlier versions of Xojo; use it when you want to abandon the current state of the open project and start again from the last saved version.

Reload Project is available for all project formats.

Item

Reloads the project item that is currently selected in the Navigator, replacing it with the version on disk. Use it when a single file has changed outside the IDE and you do not want to reload anything else.

Only items in text projects that have been saved can be reloaded. If the selected item is a folder or a module, all of its subitems are reloaded as well.

Changed Files

Reloads only the project items whose files have changed on disk since they were loaded into the IDE, leaving unchanged items as they are. Changed Files is only available for text projects.

This is the command to use after updating your project with a version control client: pull the changes, then choose File > Reload > Changed Files to bring the open project up to date.
